Come visit the Mesa region of Oklahoma, “Gateway to the Old West and Indian Territory”. The high plains prairie and large crop fields, broken up by shallow running rivers and rim rock canyons, are a hunters paradise. With 30 thousand acres of managed property in five NW Oklahoma counties along the Kansas state line big healthy whitetails are abundant. Large numbers of not only deer and turkey, but all wildlife, add to the overall experience of hunting for that giant prairie buck. Under free ranging-fair chase conditions, it just doesn’t get any better! The Northwest corner of Oklahoma is known for producing the big body size whitetails just like Kansas, our neighbor to the north. We regularly take bucks that dress over 200 pounds. The antler growth due to the nutrition and genetics in this area of the United States is outstanding. Many of our guests from the south and eastern U.S. see our 2 year old deer and think they are mature whitetails. The bottom line is while you are not guaranteed to see a particular deer or size of deer you will be hunting in the area that we call "land of the giants" where a Boone and Crockett record book deer could be seen at any time.
STANDS - You will be hunting in one of 5 stand options during you hunt including a Ladder stand, a strap-on style treestand, popup blinds, fully enclosed box blinds and in some cases makeshift "brush" blinds if needed for a quick temporary set-up on a particular deers pattern. Stands are pre-hung in pre-scouted areas well in advance of your arrival. In all cases we recommend our hunters bring some type of rain gear as most of our stands are "open to the elements".
EXPECTATIONS - We believe that the most important part of any hunt is to make sure to prepare your hunters ahead of time and to make sure that the expectations are set in advance of our hunter’s arrival. This is a FAIR CHASE hunt meaning we do not hunt in enclosures or high fences, these are wild, free ranging deer! We offer "guided" hunts however these hunts are not a "One on One" type of hunt, your guide will get you to/from pre-hung stand locations and be available for change of location/stand if need be and/or for game recovery. We have a good balance of older mature bucks in the herd, but we have many young deer that would not meet our standards of minimum harvest that must be passed on and cannot be harvested. A minimum “shooter” buck with us should be approx. 8-10 points and outside the ears for inside spread of the rack. This should put each minimum “shooter” deer into the high 120's to 130” score range. Our hunters will have an excellent chance of encountering one or more bucks scoring at or above this minimum standard during their 4 day hunt. Most of our bucks taken each year score between 130” and 150” however we take many deer above 150” each year. Our hunters each season take several much larger bucks and see many more Boone and Crocket giants above 170”
TAGS - Just one of the advantages of hunting the great State of Oklahoma is the "Over the Counter" License system. The price of an Oklahoma Buck tag is $206 (general hunting license is included with tag purchase) It is recommended that you purchase your tag in advance to your hunt, you can purchase tags thru the Oklahoma DNR link found on this site.
Bag Limit: One buck and/or one doe. For the harvest of does however, advanced permission must be given because some properties will have a restriction on doe harvest. Example: If you would like to harvest a doe please inform your guide first as he may need to move you to a different property to do that.
Hunt Specifics & Prices: All hunts are 4 full days of hunting (arrival the afternoon prior to start date). Meals & Lodging is included with all hunt prices. contact us by email or phone for Pricing/Availability
Tags: Tags are sold "over the counter" You will need to purchase an Archery, Blackpowder, or Rifle Buck tag which is $206 And a doe tag which is $50 if you would like to harvest a doe. No General hunting license is required to hunt deer as it is included in your Tag.
Guide Service Includes: Stands placed in pre scouted areas, guide available for game recovery & field care of trophy & transport to processor. Guides will help determine a change in strategy such as moving stands or properties etc.
Minimum Standard Buck: A minimum standard buck should be 8-10 point with decent mass & outside the ears (inside spread). This should put our minimum "shooter" buck in the high 120's or lower 130's But In some cases you may want to let this class of deer walk as this is the "minimum" size deer.
Notice: No mule deer does may be taken in the state of Oklahoma, however your Buck tag is good for a Mule deer or Whitetail so that if the opportunity arises you may take a Mule deer buck without asking permission. Our Minimum Score on Mule deer score is 150".
Deer Hunts
All of our hunts are 4 full days of hunting. You will arrive the afternoon before your hunt to meet with your guide. Your guide will show your hunting party the properties and stands that they will hunt before dark. A game plan will be developed as to driving arrangements for the next day. From this point you will stay in contact with your guide via meet up times and cell phone contact. Your guide will spend the remainder of your hunt helping to develop strategies including other stand or property options, and tracking/recovery of game. Your guide will handle the field care of your trophy including helping with pictures, field dressing, caping and transporting your animal to the meat processor. The cost of butchering and or shipping of the game meat is the responsibility of the hunter and not covered in hunt price.
